“Build it and they will come” said the voices in Jamie Nicoll’s head, “but not over Easter because we’ll all be in lockdown”, they continued. “Make it Labour weekend, everyone will be good and keen by then”. And with that the Nomadic Weekend found itself a new home in late October.
The third instalment of Jamie’s Southern Nomadic Weekend Away up in Canterbury’s Craigieburn Ranges was a doozy. The weather was sunny enough to restock the vitamin D supplies, windy enough to keep the sand-flies at bay and cold enough to appreciate the campfire. About perfect really.
The people were plentiful enough to meet new friends, few enough to still feel like you’re a part of something exclusive and enthusiastic enough to ride from dawn ‘til dusk. Also, about perfect really.
An event that once again proves that mountain biking is the great leveler. Where the fast and furious mix and ride as much with each other as they do the with attendant families with young kids.
Big ups once again to our benevolent benefactors Santa Cruz Bicycles and the myriad of donors of items that bring joy.
If the Nomadic Weekend Away seems like a bit of you then come join Jamie on his next adventure at the Nomadic Weekend Away North in Whanganui. Checkout Jamie’s Facebook page for more details.
